Owners and Authorities Group tours Nottingham depot Friday May 3, 2024

Hosted by Nottingham City Council, the UKTram Owners and Operators Group has been given an in-depth insight into challenges faced by the city’s tramway, and the steps it’s taking to meet them.

During their latest meeting, members of the group were given a tour of NET’s Wilkinson Street depot, including its control and incident management rooms.

Steve Duckering, UKTram Operations Manager, explained: “Every network has its own unique challenges, as well as facing issues that are common to all operators.

“Visits such as this provide an ideal opportunity for senior figures from across light rail to see for themselves the practical measures operators have developed to minimise disruption when the unexpected occurs.

“In turn, this will help them share best practice, and, by learning from the experiences of others, help drive up performance across the sector.”

The meeting also included strategic updates from networks across the country, including Manchester Metrolink, which reported excellent customer satisfaction figures of over 90 per cent while the recruitment of 50 new CSRs had resulted in a significant reduction in fare evasion.

Meanwhile, Edinburgh Trams reported that it continued to increase customer numbers, and, in the West Midlands, work was progressing well on the Wednesbury/Brierly Hill extension.

“Once again, the Owners and Authorities Group enabled top-level discussions between senior figures from across light rail, and we would like to thank Nottingham City Council and Keolis Nottingham for hosting the latest meeting.”
