UK Tram welcomes Minister’s shuttle visit

The organisation representing the country’s light rail sector, UK Tram, has welcomed a visit by The Minister of State for Transport, Jesse Norman MP, to the innovative Stourbridge Shuttle Ultra-Light Rail link.

Celebrating its tenth year of operation, the award-winning service – operated by Pre Metro Operations Ltd [PMOL] in partnership with West Midlands Railway – is an established part of the local transport system.

One of the most dependable rail systems in the UK, the shuttle operates over 5,400 journeys every month, with a reliability level of around 99.7%. It has been twice recognised in the last three years at the Global Light Rail Awards, receiving Highly Commended and runners-up achievements.

James Hammett, Managing Director of UK Tram, said: “Light and ultra-light rail is rapidly rising up the political agenda in response to concerns about air quality in our cities.

“It’s heartening to see the Minister for Transport visiting a successful system that’s delivering clear benefits to the communities it serves.

“UK Tram is leading the response to a government consultation, launched earlier this year, on the future of light rail, and the success of the Stourbridge Shuttle Ultra-Light Rail link helps strengthen our case. We’re delighted the Minister has seen this success for himself.”
