Stourbridge Shuttle crowned World Cup winner

Congratulations to the team at Pre Metro Operations Ltd after the Stourbridge Shuttle was crowned winner in the World Cup of Trams.

Following three weeks of intense competition that saw more than 16,500 votes cast, the shuttle – also winner in the best tram half of the cup draw – fought off tough competition from the winner of the best stop rounds, West Midlands Metro’s Library, to secure the overall title.

After voting closed last night (Sunday, March 21), Jamie Swift, Marketing and Commercial Manager at UKTram, commented: “The Shuttle really is a deserving winner.

“It may operate on one of the country’s smaller light rail systems, but it’s certainly demonstrated its popularity and triumphed against the toughest of competition.

“In the semi-final they saw off strong challenges from Manchester’s Pride tram and a West Midlands Metro vehicle named after football legend Cyrille Regis to secure a place in the final, where they secured 88 per cent of the vote.”

Organised by UKTram to keep tramways in the spotlight during the most recent coronavirus restrictions, the light-hearted competition has enjoyed overwhelming support from operators, tram enthusiast and customers.

“It really has given a lot of people to cheer about during these difficult times and provided a timely reminder of the enduring popularity of light rail, and the important role it’s played in helping people who need to travel to get around during the pandemic,” Jamie added.
