Engineers from across light rail have until next Tuesday (January 12) to have their say in setting new standards for key roles within the sector by taking part in a survey here.
UKTram is currently working with colleagues to develop new National Occupational Standards for tram and tramway engineers that set out the skills, knowledge and understanding required to undertake a particular task or job role to a nationally recognised level of competence.
Now the organisation is asking for feedback on the draft standards and a ‘Functional Map’ that provides analysis of the main functions of the roles for tram and tramway operatives and technicians.
In total 40 draft NOS have been published (see links below) and, as the name suggest they have been developed at occupation/job role level and structured to reflect the key functions and activities undertaken by individuals engaged in those roles.
All activities are broken down and presented within individual standards of competence.
The Functional Map is designed to identify which standards need to be written to ensure that the key functions are covered and can be viewed here.
