The role light rail in the UK is playing in delivering sustainable, carbon-neutral transport for the future has been put in the spotlight by an organisation representing engineers and other professionals from the global rail industry.
James Hammett, UKTram Managing Director, was among the guest speakers at a recent technical seminar organised by the Permanent Way Institution (PWI) in Nottingham.
The event focussed on the vital contributions tramways and similar transit systems make to evolving urban transport systems and brought together industry experts, engineers, and innovators to discuss the future of an increasingly important mode of public transport.
“This was a must-attend event for professionals in the field and provided the ideal opportunity to highlight the work being done by UKTram to promote the benefits of light rail in the UK,” James said.
“It also highlighted the contribution our popular tram and metro systems are already making towards reducing congestion, enhancing urban connectivity, improving air quality and attracting inward investment.”
The seminar also included speakers from VolkerRail Ltd, Network Rail, Nottingham Trams Limited, Keolis Amey Metrolink, the LRSSB and Mott MacDonald.
