Former Deputy Chief Inspector of Railways Office of Rail and Road joins board of directors at Seaton

Seaton Tramway are delighted to welcome a new member, David Keay, to their board of directors. Previously responsible for overseeing the safety regulation of the UK mainline railway, Tramways, Light Railways, Metros and Heritage Railways. Mr Keay is the ideal candidate for the position.

Chairman of Seaton Tramway, Bruce Warnes, said: “The shareholders, board and management team are delighted to welcome David on boad. David brings with him a wealth of experience and specialist knowledge that will strengthen the Tramway at this historic time in our development.”

“As we near the completion of a long and complex lease negotiation with East Devon District Council which will enable us to make our planned £2million investment in Seaton, there are both exciting and challenging times,” Bruce explained, adding. “David’s appointment further underlines our commitment to running our tramway charity in a safe, successful and forward thinking way – for the benefit of our visitors and for Seaton and the surrounding area too.”

Trams have run through the Axe Valley for 47 years, introducing several million visitors to the area over that time, with many returning year after year to enjoy this most unique of attractions.

This autumn, building will commence for a new station at Seaton. This new terminus will provide all the facilities expected from a top visitor attraction and provide a place that the Tramway’s incredible story can really come to life and where the trams can be displayed in all their glory. On top of that it will create a place for young people and school groups to learn about the science and magic of trams and a focus for the Tramway to develop apprenticeships and training programmes.

Newly appointed Director at Seaton Tramway, David Keay, said. “It is a real honour to have been asked to join the board of the iconic Seaton Tramway. East Devon has been a favourite holiday destination for my family, we all have many happy memories of visiting the Tramway over the last 35 years and I look forward to helping ensure ongoing sustainability and popularity for future generations.”
