At the Global Light Rail Awards last night (Wednesday, October 2), UKTram’s Centre of Excellence was named Team of the Year after delivering a host of projects to support proposals for new tramways and similar transit systems.

These include the publication of ‘a route map’ and a ‘Pre-route map’ for potential tramway owners or sponsors that sets out the process they need to follow when considering new systems or extensions to existing networks.

With the support of the wider UKTram team, they also meet on a regular basis to identify processes that can be amended or improved to generate cost savings or simplify the planning system.

After receiving the award during a gala dinner at the Bloomsbury Ballroom in London, James Hammett, UKTram Managing Director, commented: “The passion and commitment of the Centre of Excellence team really shines through, and many members give up their own time to help support the sector.

“They are certainly worthy winners of this prestigious award, and to see their efforts recognised by colleagues from across the sector reflects the contribution the Centre of Excellence is making to the future of light rail.”
