Appointment further strengthens UKTram board

A key appointment to the board of UKTram brings a wealth of additional experience and technical expertise to the organisation representing the country’s light rail sector.

Quantity surveyor specialist Mathew Taylor was elected to the board at UKTram’s recent annual general meeting.

Mr Taylor has spent the last 20 years of his 30-year career in commercial construction management, specialising in the transportation sector, and has advised many light rail and very light rail projects.

In addition to running his own consultancy, CNNCT Ltd, he is already actively involved with the UKTram Centre of Excellence and holds positions on the boards of innovative track form supplier Precast Advanced Track and light rail operating company Pre Metro Operations. He has also advised on transportation for global companies such as Mott MacDonald and Atkins.

UKTram Managing Director, James Hammett, commented: “Mathew’s vast national and international experience of the light rail sector will be a great asset to the board.

“This is crucial time for the industry as we prepare to present our strategy on the future of light rail to Government and press the case for its expansion as an essential part of the UK’s public transport infrastructure.”

“We continue to draw upon the great talent within the industry as we strive to promote light rail as an effective, environmentally-friendly urban transport solution across the UK.”

On his appointment, Mr Taylor added: “I specialise in adding value through commercial initiatives such as benchmarking data, whole-life cost analysis and carbon quantification and have built up a large array of industry networks, all of which I intend to utilise to the benefit of UKTram and its members.”
