Heathrow Terminal Pod

Personal Rapid Transit

Heathrow Terminal Pod

The world-first Heathrow pod is the personal rapid transit (PRT) system linking Terminal 5 with the T5 business car park. The pods are battery-powered, driverless vehicles.

The Heathrow Pod is the world's first Personal Rapid Transit (PRT) system. The collaborative creation by UK-based Ultra Global PRT and BAA, features 21 eco-friendly, battery-powered, driverless vehicles.

These pods offer efficient and direct transportation for four passengers and their luggage along a dedicated 3.8km guideway.

The 21 pods carry four passengers and their luggage, along a guideway with speeds of up to 25mph. Passengers select their destination via touchscreen and can travel from one of three stations, either directly at Terminal 5 or from two locations at the Terminal 5 Business Car Park.

The Heathrow Pod system significantly cuts down on travel time and congestion.

Designed with cost-efficiency in mind, Ultra utilised mostly off-the-shelf technology, including rubber tyres on an open guideway.
