Go Ahead for The Development of National Occupational Standards for Tram Drivers Thursday January 9, 2020

UKTram are leading on a UK wide National Occupational Standards (NOS) project, to review the existing Tram Driver NOS, which were last looked at in 2005. The full list of these NOS can be found here Tram Driver NOS Units

National Occupational Standards (NOS) are revised and developed in partnership with employers and other appropriate organisations across the UK. NOS set out the skills, knowledge and understanding required to undertake a particular task or job role to a nationally recognised level of competence, helping to formalise training requirements for employers and employees across the UK.

As the name suggests, NOS are developed at occupation/job role level and are structured to reflect the key functions and activities undertaken by individuals engaged in that job role. Activities are broken down and presented within specific units of competence, for example a specific unit could address an activity such as dealing with difficult customers.
National Occupational Standards are available to all organisations in the sector free of charge and can be used as a resource in a wide range of HR and training functions. For example, they can be used:
• To support the development of vocational qualifications and apprenticeships
• To support the development of in-house training schemes
• As a basis for self-assessment and development
• To support the development of an induction programme
• To contribute to the development of job descriptions and job advertisements
• As an interview check list for selectors

Timescales
The project is due to begin in January 2020 and is scheduled to be completed by June 2020.

How to get involved?
National Occupational Standards are a valuable tool in defining best practice in the performance of individuals in the workplace which in turn sets a benchmark of competence required by the sector.

With the above in mind, we need your help. We would like to invite you join our project. Utilising your knowledge and experience, the aim is to ensure that we have the appropriate NOS in place and that they are accurate and fit for purpose.
If you would like to take part in the proposed NOS project please register your interest by contacting the UKTram team via email info@uktram.co.uk
